The Most Experienced Walk-In Freezer Trailer Team Working Norwalk

KryoFridge is not a broker and not a listing site. We own every trailer that leaves our yard, our dispatchers pick up around the clock, and our drivers have been running this stretch of southeast Los Angeles County for years. More than 30 years of family run rental experience sits behind each delivery, and our walk in freezer rentals across California cover the whole state with crews who already know the alleys and the tight rear yards in this market, gate codes included. Every unit is fully insured and NSF certified, and the fleet runs deep enough that a spare is staged before you ever have to ask for one. Give us a call and we will walk your site with you before a truck rolls.

Our cold storage trailers sit on our own yard, not a partner's

Our trailers sit staged around Norwalk, fueled, pre-cooled, and maintained in-house, parked and waiting for the call rather than being sourced after it. That is why an emergency call usually puts a unit on your lot and pulling temperature in about 45 minutes.

The people who answer own the rental freezer trailers

The voice on the phone belongs to the same outfit that owns the trailer and sends the driver. No reseller in the middle quietly marking up somebody else's equipment while your inventory creeps past 40°F on the shelf.

A full range of rental freezer trailers, freezer or fresh-cold

Every unit is ours to own, service, and deliver, and each one swings between deep-freeze and fresh-cold on a precise digital set-point. So we can size the answer to your Norwalk job and turn it around the same day rather than putting you on next week's list.

The chains that rely on our refrigerated trailers

National chains do not gamble on refrigeration. A drifting set-point during dinner rush can cost a brand a day of sales and a health-code headache, so the chains that scale fast vet a cold-storage partner the same careful way they vet a protein supplier. KryoFridge has held temperature for names like McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, and Dutch Bros, and earned the repeat call.

The stories behind that trust are the kind every restaurant owner recognizes. One Friday at 6:30 in the evening, a Chick-fil-A called in with a dead walk-in and a drive-through line already wrapped around the building. We prepped a trailer, dispatched it, and had it on their pad pulling temperature 34 minutes after the phone rang. The manager's first words when the driver pulled in were, "I cannot believe you are already here." That is the bar we hold ourselves to. Another year, an overnight outage shorted a cooler on the morning of a holiday rush, and our team staged three freezer trailers to hold every pie, every protein, and every prep tray so the kitchen served the rush without missing a ticket. The reason we hear some version of that line so often is the same every time: the equipment was already nearby, already cold, and owned by the people who answered the phone. That same standard travels to every Norwalk job, from a one-cook taqueria to a distribution floor.

Three decades deep in the equipment-rental business, running the West Coast's biggest dual-purpose fleet of freezer and refrigeration trailers. Every unit ours, never a broker's.

What Norwalk distributors say after the trailer lands

"Our walk-in went out on a Saturday and I was already doing the math on what we were about to throw away. KryoFridge answered on the first call and had a trailer in the back lot before we lost anything. Two days later the repair was done and they came right back for it."

Rhonda S., verified reviewerRhonda S. · restaurant owner, Firestone Boulevard

"We had our meat department rack scheduled for work and no plan for the product. They backed a trailer into receiving the morning the contractor showed up and it held perfectly the whole time. Zero waste on a job I honestly expected to lose product on."

Julia L., verified reviewerJulia L. · grocery store manager, Rosecrans Avenue

"We took on a frozen program that was bigger than our cold room. Two trailers in the dock apron covered the overflow for six weeks. Delivery hit our appointment window both times, which almost never happens with rental equipment."

Under the hood

Front of the fleet: our everyday refrigerated trailer

In Norwalk our signature walk-in unit carries most of the work and the rest of the fleet fills in around it, so compare walk-in freezer trailer sizes and tell us what your yard can actually take. Every unit holds a set point anywhere from 50 degrees down to 10 below zero, which means the same trailer covers a produce hold one week and a frozen protein hold the next.

Ask any of our drivers which trailer they would send to a job that cannot fail, and they will point at the 16' Utility. Sixteen feet of insulated box rides on a tandem axle and swings from deep-freeze to fresh-cold on one digital set-point, every interior surface NSF approved. The rear doors swallow pallets off a loading dock while the side utility door gives your staff a quick in and out without dumping the cold air.

Every one of these is ours, not a unit we sourced from somebody else after you called. That means it arrives fueled, already pulled down to temperature, and serviced by our own shop. Plug it into a dedicated 120V, 20-amp circuit or run it on a generator we bring, and it will hold its number through the hottest week of the year.

Communities near Norwalk we run refrigeration trailers to

From the busiest commercial corridors to the quietest side streets, these are the Norwalk area communities we serve every week.

Civic Center, central Norwalk, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Civic Center, central Norwalk

This is the institutional core, built around City Hall and the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder complex on the Imperial Highway corridor, and the food service here runs at government scale. We drop units on the campus lots and staff parking edges where a truck can swing wide without blocking a public entrance.

Studebaker, north Norwalk, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Studebaker, north Norwalk

Mixed residential and light industrial ground along Studebaker Road, close to the Norwalk Aquatic Pavilion on Sproul Street and to the Santa Fe Springs industrial edge. Yards here are usually workable, so we can back a trailer in and be powered up in under an hour.

Norwalk Hills, north side, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Norwalk Hills, north side

The residential north side runs up toward the Whittier boundary and the Interstate 5 frontage, so the calls here lean toward home catered events, church halls and neighborhood businesses. We time those deliveries around school traffic so a trailer never sits in a lane on Imperial Highway.

Carmenita, south Norwalk, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Carmenita, south Norwalk

The south end along Carmenita Road runs toward the Cerritos and Artesia line and the State Route 91 corridor, with the Cerritos College campus edge close by. Graduation season and campus catering keep us busy on this side of the city every spring.

Norwalk Manor, southeast Norwalk, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Norwalk Manor, southeast Norwalk

The southeast quadrant sits closest to La Mirada and takes in a good share of the family event work, from quinceaneras to graduation parties in rented halls. Deliveries here are usually a set and leave, with pickup scheduled the morning after the event.

Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue retail corridor, Norwalk freezer trailer service area

Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue retail corridor

The commercial heart of the city sits at Norwalk Town Square on The Plaza, where more than 40 merchants share one very busy intersection. There is real room to place a trailer on those parcels, which makes emergency drops here about as clean as they get.

Other Jobs Our Refrigerated Trailers Handle Around Norwalk

Norwalk packs more than 6,000 businesses into 9.7 square miles and four freeways touch the city, so a trailer that leaves our yard is on almost any Norwalk address in minutes. Below are the three jobs our walk-in freezer trailers do most often here.

A plugged-in KryoFridge freezer trailer supporting Kitchen remodels and refrigeration replacement in Norwalk

🍽 Kitchen remodels and refrigeration replacement

Norwalk commercial buildings mostly date from the 1950s through the 1980s, so refrigeration replacement is a steady part of life here. Park a unit in the yard for the length of the build and nothing has to be thrown out or trucked across town. These are scheduled rentals, so book early and pick your delivery day.

A freshly serviced KryoFridge cold chain trailer supporting Power outage and grid backup in Norwalk

🛒 Power outage and grid backup

Southern California Edison has scheduled planned maintenance outages across the region during heat events, with some Los Angeles County outages running as long as eight hours. Eight hours is well past the safe window for a loaded walk-in. A trailer on our generator does not care what the grid is doing.

📦 Bulk buys and seasonal overstock

Distributors land containers, restaurant groups pre buy ahead of cost increases, and caterers build two weeks of product before December. Permanent freezer space is sized for a normal week, not for that. A trailer two miles from the Interstate 5 and Interstate 605 interchange makes an easy staging point.

A spotless KryoFridge portable refrigeration unit supporting Institutional and campus kitchens in Norwalk

🎪 Institutional and campus kitchens

Norwalk La Mirada Unified is the largest employer in the city, Cerritos College serves a 52 square mile district, and Metropolitan State Hospital sits on 162 acres. Those kitchens cannot close for a refrigeration project, and we carry the insurance certificates and vendor paperwork institutional purchasing departments ask for.

KryoFridge refrigeration trailer on a Emergency response and relief feeding job near Norwalk

🚨 Emergency response and relief feeding

Santa Ana wind season runs September through May and the City of Norwalk issues wind advisories through its Ready Norwalk program. Shelter kitchens and relief feeding operations need cold storage that arrives with its own power, and we keep units available for exactly that.

A white KryoFridge cold chain trailer supporting Ice cream, frozen dessert and cold beverage in Norwalk

🏭 Ice cream, frozen dessert and cold beverage

Frozen dessert runs colder than almost anything else a food business holds, and our set points reach 10 below zero. Norwalk street festivals, park concerts and summer programs at the Norwalk Aquatic Pavilion all pull frozen product that has to stay hard from load in to last call.

What ties these together is the clock. Nobody budgets a freezer trailer into next quarter. They reach for one the hour a compressor quits, or the evening before a party when the stack of rented ice chests suddenly looks laughably undersized. Since our units sit staged around Norwalk instead of a couple counties down the freeway, "can I get it today" is an ordinary ask here, not a stretch.

The arithmetic behind renting a refrigeration trailer in Norwalk

On our end

Add it up the way an owner in Norwalk has to. One restaurant walk-in routinely sits on a small fortune in proteins, dairy, and prepped product. Scale that to a grocery rack or a warehouse freezer bay and the exposure balloons. Now knock the power or the compressor out on a triple-digit afternoon, and that whole inventory is in jeopardy inside a few hours. Then stack on the sales you lose while the line sits dark and the wages you burn paying staff to triage what can still be saved.

Hold a pre-staged trailer up against that risk and it reads like cheap insurance, a fixed, predictable expense parked in front of a loss with no ceiling. That is exactly why the businesses that got stung once tape our number by the phone. There is never a second scramble, because the next time they dial before the product has a chance to warm. Owning every trailer ourselves means we can scale the answer to fit. A single compact box suits a corner cafe. A clustered setup covers a warehouse floor. Either turns around the same day.

Norwalk Heat, Santa Ana Season and the Refrigeration Failures That Follow

Averages make Norwalk look easy. July highs sit around 85 degrees with lows near 67, and August runs about the same. The trouble is that Southern California does not deliver heat as a plateau, it delivers it as a spike. Norwalk recorded its all time high of 112 degrees on September 6, 2024, and the all time low of 30 degrees back on January 30, 2002. September is the month that hurts, because condensing units have already worked a full summer by then and a 112 degree afternoon is well outside what most walk-in equipment was sized to handle.

Santa Ana winds add the second layer. These are strong, extremely dry downslope winds that push in from inland and run most often between September and May, and the City of Norwalk pushes High Wind Advisory notices through its Ready Norwalk program when they arrive. For refrigeration, Santa Ana conditions stack three problems at once. Humidity drops, ambient heat climbs for the season, and utility outages get more likely. Condenser coils also pack with wind driven dust and debris in a matter of days, which is a quiet cause of failures that show up a week after the wind stops.

Then there is the grid. Southern California Edison has publicly scheduled more than a thousand planned outages across the region during a single heat stretch, with the potential to affect tens of thousands of customers and some Los Angeles County outages lasting up to eight hours, and those blocks overlapped a National Weather Service excessive heat warning. Ready LA County publishes outage preparedness guidance for the same reason. That is the pattern behind most emergency freezer trailer calls we take here. Heat, wind, an outage, and a walk-in full of product with a clock running on it.

Walk-In Freezer Trailers for Norwalk Restaurants and Commercial Kitchens

The walk-in is the heart of any back of house. Proteins, produce, dairy, prepped pans, dressings and everything the line pulls from during service all live in one box. Most independent kitchens along Firestone Boulevard, Alondra Boulevard and Imperial Highway have exactly one walk-in and nowhere to move product when it goes down. The chain pads around Norwalk Town Square at Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue have a little more capacity and a lot less freedom to throw inventory away, because everything is counted against corporate. Either way, a failed walk-in stops a kitchen inside an hour.

That is the call we take most. A compressor gives out, a fan motor seizes, a condenser coil clogs after a Santa Ana wind week, or a control board dies on a Friday night. We prep a unit, roll it, and get it holding on site while your product is still cold. One of our best known saves was a Chick-fil-A that called at 6:30 on a Friday evening with a dead walk-in and a drive through line around the block. The trailer was on site 34 minutes after the phone rang.

A white and blue KryoFridge freezer trailer parked in the rear service yard of a busy independent Southern California restaurant at dusk, kitchen back door propped open, warm light spilling out, a cook rolling a speed rack toward the trailer ramp

Placement in Norwalk is its own skill. The 1950s and 1960s retail blocks along Pioneer Boulevard have shallow rear yards, shared trash enclosures and service alleys that were drawn for a delivery van, not a trailer. Newer power center parcels have room to spare. Our drivers have parked in both, which is why we ask two or three questions about your back lot before dispatch rather than after. If a dedicated 120 volt, 20 amp circuit is not available within 100 feet of the spot, we bring a generator and the trailer runs off grid.

Restaurant groups that operate across the region keep us on their vendor list for the same reason, because our portable refrigeration rentals in Los Angeles cover every one of their locations from Norwalk out to the coast with the same dispatch number and the same insured, NSF certified equipment. Book a trailer ahead of a planned service window or call us the minute something fails, and either way you get a unit we own rather than one we had to chase down.

Portable Freezer Trailers for Norwalk Supermarkets, Warehouses and Food Distribution

Norwalk carries a deeper grocery bench than most cities its size. Superior Grocers sits at 10951 Rosecrans Avenue and runs from six in the morning until eleven at night, and Stater Bros., Vallarta Supermarkets, Northgate Market, Food 4 Less, Smart and Final, Ralphs and Costco all serve this trade area. Those stores move serious volume through meat, seafood and produce, and each department depends on walk-in freezers, coolers and multi deck cases that eventually need work.

A supermarket cannot empty a meat room into thin air. When a rack goes down for repair or a refrigeration retrofit gets scheduled, the standard answer is a freezer trailer backed into the receiving area so product transfers straight across. We have handled that on remodel schedules that ran several weeks and on emergency calls that ran several hours. Because we own the fleet, a second unit or a swap unit is already staged if the first job grows.

A KryoFridge freezer trailer positioned at the loading dock apron of a large Southern California distribution warehouse in bright afternoon light, forklift moving a pallet of frozen goods toward the trailer, tall tilt-up concrete walls behind

Two miles northwest of the city center, the Santa Fe Springs industrial market runs some of the busiest logistics real estate in Los Angeles County. New Class A buildings on Norwalk Boulevard are being marketed with build to suit food, freezer, cooler and heavy power improvements, which tells you exactly what tenants are doing with that space. Distribution centers for national retailers sit within a mile or two of the Interstate 5 and Interstate 605 interchange. Every one of those conversions and every seasonal frozen program creates a window where cold inventory needs a temporary home.

For third party logistics companies, food importers and distributors, a walk-in freezer trailer in the dock apron is simply extra pallet capacity that shows up on your schedule instead of a lease. Set points hold anywhere from 50 degrees down to 10 below zero, so the same unit works for a chilled produce program in spring and a frozen protein buy in November. Tell us your appointment window and we will hit it.

Cold Storage Trailer Rentals for Norwalk Caterers, Banquets and Productions

Norwalk throws a lot of parties, and most of them are big. Quinceaneras, weddings, baptisms and graduation celebrations fill rented halls, church halls and backyards across the Carmenita and Norwalk Manor sides of the city, and almost none of those venues has commercial refrigeration worth the name. Graduation season alone spans Norwalk La Mirada Unified, Cerritos College, John Glenn High School and Norwalk High School. When a caterer books 400 guests, cooking capacity is rarely the problem. Cold holding is.

Most caterers in this market work out of a modest commissary with a single walk-in. Park a freezer trailer at the commissary for the production week and the whole menu gets built ahead without anyone playing Tetris with sheet pans. Stage it at the venue instead and the cold side of service lives ten steps from the table. December is the heaviest stretch, because tamale production here is a genuine commercial run, not a family batch, and it eats freezer space fast.

A KryoFridge freezer trailer staged on a grass and asphalt edge behind a large outdoor community festival at golden hour, food vendor tents and string lights in the background, a caterer in whites carrying a sheet tray toward the open trailer door

The city calendar adds public volume on top of the private work. The Independence Day Festival runs at Holifield Park on Excelsior Drive with fireworks at nine, and Concerts in the Park, the Arturo Sanchez Sr. Halloween Parade, Front Street Fridays and the Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting all bring food vendors out through the year. Every one of those vendors owes Los Angeles County a workable cold holding plan, and a trailer behind the vendor row solves it for the whole event instead of one booth at a time.

Norwalk is also a working film location, and production catering is about as demanding as cold storage gets. Call times run before dawn, the crew count is fixed, the shoot day cannot move, and there is no kitchen on site. We handle those the same way we handle a Friday night restaurant emergency, which is quickly. Send us the dates and we will confirm the unit.

Where we set the thermostat and why

"Cold" is not one number. Different product stays safe inside different temperature windows, which is the entire reason a precise digital set-point matters, and in the middle of a heat wave in Norwalk, a load that slips out of its window is a load you write off. Use the chart below as the reference our customers lean on when they size a rental.

ProductTarget holding bandTrailer mode
Ice cream and frozen desserts-10°F to 0°FDeep freeze
Frozen proteins, seafood, prepared meals0°F or belowFreezer
Fresh meat and poultry (short hold)28°F to 32°FRefrigerated
Dairy, deli, packaged produce34°F to 38°FRefrigerated
Beverages, florals, catering trays38°F to 45°FRefrigerated

One figure outranks everything in that chart, and it is not listed there: 40°F. Food-safety guidance treats the band between 40°F and 140°F as the zone where bacteria thrive, and the clock on perishable product starts ticking the moment it crosses 40 on the way up. Roughly four cumulative hours above that line and most refrigerated inventory is no longer safe to serve. Picture that countdown running on a 100-degree afternoon in Norwalk with the walk-in dark, and the urgency of a quick trailer drop stops being abstract.

Tell us the single coldest item you are holding when you call, and we dial the trailer to that. One unit carries a straight freezer load with no fuss. But when your list mixes deep-freeze desserts with fresh-cold produce for the same remodel or event, we will usually point you toward a split setup or a second box so neither side of the load has to settle for the wrong temperature.

Siting temporary refrigeration on a working Norwalk property

Powering one of our trailers is refreshingly simple, and there are precisely two ways to do it. Either you have a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit reachable within roughly 100 feet of the parking spot, or we bring a generator. What the units will not accept is standard 208 to 240V building service, so a quick question about your outlet before dispatch heads off any surprise on delivery day.

  • Dedicated outlet on hand? Most Norwalk kitchens and markets already have the right one, so we plug straight in and the unit begins pulling the temperature down.
  • Open lot or event field? A generator keeps the trailer running anywhere, whether that is an event lawn or a warehouse yard.
  • Worried about a shutoff? A unit on a generator keeps your cold chain alive when a fire-season power shutoff takes the surrounding grid down.
A plugged-in KryoFridge refrigerated trailer on generator power in Norwalk

On placement, all the unit really asks for is a fairly flat patch with enough room for the delivery truck to maneuver it in and set it straight, plus either a power source in reach or space for a generator. We lock down the exact drop point before dispatch, and our drivers know the Norwalk layout cold, so the delivery is one clean trip instead of a guessing game on the property.

How Norwalk job sites put our cold chain trailer to work

What happens next

Quick service manager, Friday dinner rush, walk-in cooler dead

The call came in at 6:30 on a Friday evening from a Chick-fil-A with the drive through backed up around the block and a walk-in cooler that had quit mid service. We prepped a trailer, dispatched immediately, and had it on site and holding 34 minutes after the phone rang. Nothing in that cooler was lost and the restaurant finished its night.

Family restaurant owner, Mother's Day weekend, overnight outage

An overnight power outage shorted the fuse on the walk-in cooler at a Denny's heading into Mother's Day, one of the biggest days on their calendar. Our dispatch team put three freezer trailers on site that morning to hold pies, meats and the rest of the inventory. They served the whole day without pulling a single item off the menu.

Supermarket receiving manager, scheduled meat room rack rebuild

A Gateway Cities market had its refrigeration rack scheduled for a rebuild and no place to put a full meat and frozen department. We backed a walk-in freezer trailer into the receiving bay before the contractor arrived and left it through the project, so product transferred straight across and straight back. The department never stopped selling and nothing was written off.

Four freeways, one very short drive. Norwalk fits more than 100,000 people into 9.7 square miles and is touched by Interstate 5, Interstate 605, Interstate 105 and State Route 91. Interstate 105 actually ends here. That geometry is why our response times in this city beat what we can do in most markets, and it is why a 34 minute emergency delivery is a real number for us and not a slogan.

From your call to a running trailer in Norwalk

On a bad day, booking should be the part that does not add stress. Four steps, an upfront number, and a single person who owns the whole thing.

Step one: Walk us through the product

Tell us whether it is freezer or fridge product, a ballpark volume, and your rough window. That is enough for us to call the right size.

Next · We settle size, power and placement

We pair you with a unit, confirm whether you have a dedicated circuit or need a generator, and pin the exact drop point so the truck makes one trip.

Step 3 · The trailer lands and cools

We arrive on your schedule, about 45 minutes for a true emergency, set the trailer, energize it, and let it drive down to your number.

After that · It runs, dispatch answers around the clock

It holds the set-point for your entire term while our line stays live the whole way through. Wrap up, and we swing back for the pickup.

California and Los Angeles County Cold Holding Requirements for Norwalk Food Businesses

What the county expects

California Health and Safety Code section 113996, part of the California Retail Food Code, sets the line every food business in Norwalk works to. Potentially hazardous food must be held at or above 135 degrees Fahrenheit or at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit, with narrow exceptions at 45 degrees for raw shell eggs, unshucked live molluscan shellfish, pasteurized milk in original sealed containers, vending machine product, certified farmers market samples and food in transport. Serving lines and salad bars may hold above 41 but not above 45 degrees for periods not exceeding 12 hours in any 24 hour period, and unused portions have to be discarded at or before the end of that window. The 41 degree mark exists to stop rapid growth of disease causing microorganisms, and it is the whole reason a backup cold storage plan is worth having before you need one.

Norwalk falls under the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Environmental Health division rather than a city health department. For community events, Environmental Health reviews temporary food facility applications to confirm the booth can maintain cold food at or below 45 degrees, county guidance directs that potentially hazardous food be held at 41 degrees or less, and the application asks you to state how you will hold cold food during operating hours. A probe thermometer has to be on site at all times, and anything held between 42 and 45 degrees gets discarded at the end of the operating day. Vendors at the Independence Day Festival at Holifield Park or at Front Street Fridays all work under those conditions, and a trailer holding a stable set point keeps product out of that discard band entirely. The county Community Events Program can be reached at 626 430 5320.

On the worker side, California adopted Title 8 section 3396, heat illness prevention in indoor places of employment, approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board on June 20, 2024 and effective July 23, 2024. It applies to most indoor workplaces once the temperature reaches 82 degrees, and it names warehouses, restaurant kitchens and manufacturing plants specifically. Employers owe cool drinking water, at least one cool down area with breaks of at least five minutes, an emergency response plan, and acclimatization watching through a new employee's first 14 days. Outdoor work already sits under Title 8 section 3395, and at the federal level a heat injury and illness prevention rule has been proposed and is still working through rulemaking. Experienced Norwalk food businesses build to the California requirements, because those are the ones an inspector will be holding in their hand.

What our temporary refrigeration units bring to a health inspection

  • NSF-approved interior surfaces built for direct food contact.
  • A digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view for the inspector.
  • Proper drainage and a sealed, food-safe insulated box.
  • Licensed and insured on every unit we put on the road.

One caveat we always state plainly: we supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service. If your program requires continuous written records, line that vendor up on your own.

Three sizes of walk-in freezer rental, and who books each one

Our signature 16 foot Utility series leads the fleet. It is the trailer we send on most jobs, and crews like it for the side utility access door. We build three footprints in all, so a single kitchen holding overflow stock has a fit and so does a distribution floor in a disaster. Every unit is dual purpose by design: one adjustable system swings between freezer and refrigerator on a digital set point. Each trailer runs on a dedicated circuit or on a generator.

6x12Grocers, caterers, mid-size eventsDeep-freeze capable
6x8Tight lots, small kitchens, short overflow-10°F to 50°F

Each unit holds a precise digital set-point and runs on a dedicated 120V/20A circuit or a generator.

The 6x8, our smallest box, easiest to place

Think eight or so pallet spots, and the unit to grab when square footage is the whole problem. It slips into the pinched service yards and cramped back-of-house corners that a larger box cannot even swing into. One cafe or small-market walk-in goes down, and this is almost always enough cold to cover it, plus the simplest unit to set in a small space.

Our 6x12: the middle size most jobs land on

Call it fourteen pallet spots, deep-freeze rated, and far and away the size people ask for most. It lands right in the middle: roomy enough for a multi-day catering job or a restaurant that needs true walk-in-equivalent room while the kitchen is torn up. Roomy enough that nobody is playing Tetris with shelves, yet still small enough to set in most commercial back lots without a site survey.

The 6x16, the large box for resets and recalls

Roughly twenty pallet spots paired with a heavy-duty reefer plant engineered to keep deep-freeze locked in even when the ambient air is merciless. Reach for it when a warehouse bay drops, when a large festival needs an anchor, or when a relief operation is carrying its own cold chain.

Not sure which size fits? Most customers land on the 16 foot Utility, and we will tell you honestly if a smaller footprint covers your job. Tell us roughly what you are storing and for how long, and we will spec it for you.

Freezer trailer vs. reefer truck vs. portable walk-in, for a warehouse

The pop-up walk-in cooler. Cheap to rent and easy to set up, but it chills, it does not freeze, and it draws every watt it needs from your building while depending on a calm ambient temperature around it. The second your building loses power, your cooler loses it too.

The refrigerated box truck. Designed to haul product on the interstate, not to sit in a lot and babysit it. Parked, it idles fuel all day, broadcasts compressor noise across a storefront or an event lawn, and pins down a tractor plus a driver you probably do not need.

The freezer trailer we deliver. Built from the ground up to be dropped on a pad and to defend a temperature for as long as the job runs. It freezes deep, carries NSF approval, locks, stays quiet near guests, and lives on nothing more than one dedicated circuit or a generator.

How the build stands up to an inspector

Even a rented box has to satisfy the county environmental health office that licenses and inspects every food facility. Show an inspector a unit that cannot document its temperature or was not built for food contact, and they have the authority to halt service immediately.

That is a bar each of our trailers clears: NSF-approved throughout, food-safe interior surfaces, proper drainage, and a digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view. We supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service.

Clustering cold storage trailers for distribution floors

For a typical kitchen or market, one box does the job. Distribution floors, big fairs, and full-scale disaster response routinely need more, and because the fleet is ours, we can cluster several units and bring them online in waves as the work expands. Match the cold capacity to the operation rather than make the operation squeeze itself into one box.

Same-day emergencies and longer terms for many months

The clock is yours to set. Some jobs are a handful of days for an emergency or a single event. Others stretch across weeks or months for a remodel or a seasonal swell, and a few become standing contracts for businesses that want capacity parked on standby. Name your window and you will get a clean quote, no penalty for an honest "not sure yet."

Why a temporary need usually rents instead of building

Building permanent cold storage is a capital project in every sense: you hire a refrigeration contractor, schedule the electrical, pull a building permit, and wait weeks before a single pallet goes inside. A rental turns that equation on its head. You bring in precisely the cold you need, for precisely the stretch you need it, and the trailer is holding temperature that same week, frequently that same day, with the commitment ending the moment your need is over.

What keeps the box cold in a hot loading dock

Three engineered elements carry the load. Thick insulated panels and tightly gasketed doors lock the sun outside and the cold inside. A self-contained reefer condensing system specified with surplus capacity keeps stripping heat out of the box even when the air outside is brutal. And a digital thermostat locks onto your chosen number and cycles the compressor to hold the line. Run those three together and a trailer baking on open asphalt behaves like one tucked in a cool warehouse. That is also why power is the first thing we ask about: the design delivers its safety margin only on steady, uninterrupted power.

"December is our heaviest month and my commissary walk-in is not big enough for it. Having a freezer trailer at the shop for three weeks changed how we produce. I booked it again for next year before we even finished the last event."

"Our kitchen refrigeration was being replaced and we could not shut down food service for a single day. They handled the certificate of insurance and the vendor paperwork without me chasing anyone. The trailer showed up on the date we picked."

JEANIQUA F., verified reviewerJEANIQUA F. · facilities manager, Civic Center area

"We had multiple food vendors and every one of them needed cold holding for the permit. One trailer behind the vendor row solved it for the entire event. The driver walked each vendor through it, which I did not expect."

"I have used the big national rental companies and they are brokers. These people actually own the trailers. When our Norwalk store lost refrigeration at ten at night, a human answered and a unit was moving within the hour."

Bailey W., verified reviewerBailey W. · restaurant group operations, Cerritos and Norwalk

"Summer meal program pushed us past what our freezers could hold. They delivered, set it up and showed our staff how the set point works. Simple and clean, and the pickup was just as easy."

Norwalk freezer trailer questions, answered

How fast can you get a freezer trailer to a business in Norwalk?

Same day in almost every case, and often within a couple of hours on an emergency. Norwalk is touched by four freeways, Interstate 5, Interstate 605, Interstate 105 and State Route 91, and Interstate 105 actually terminates here, so our drivers get in and out of this city faster than almost anywhere else we serve. Our fastest documented emergency delivery put a trailer on site 34 minutes after the phone rang. Our dispatch line is staffed 24 hours a day, so call the moment you know you have a problem rather than waiting until morning.

How do you power a freezer trailer at my Norwalk site?

There are exactly two ways. Either we bring a generator, which we provide and set up, or you supply a dedicated 120 volt, 20 amp circuit located within 100 feet of where the trailer sits. That is it. It is not a 240 volt hookup and it does not need a special panel. In older Norwalk retail buildings along Pioneer Boulevard and Firestone Boulevard, a dedicated circuit that close to a usable parking spot is rare, so most of those jobs run on our generator. Newer power center parcels and institutional campuses more often have a circuit we can use.

What set point range does the trailer cover?

Every unit runs anywhere from 50 degrees Fahrenheit down to 10 degrees below zero on an adjustable set point. That means the same trailer works as a walk-in freezer or as a walk-in cooler depending on what you dial in. For a Norwalk restaurant holding produce, dairy and prepped items, a cooler set point keeps you comfortably under the 41 degree California cold holding limit. For frozen protein, ice cream or a distributor overflow, you take it down to a true frozen hold. We do not offer a separate temperature monitoring or logging service, though the unit itself has digital set point control.

Where will you put the trailer on my property?

Wherever it fits and where it will not block your operation. A lot of Norwalk commercial buildings date from the 1950s through the 1980s, which means shallow rear yards, shared trash enclosures and service alleys drawn for a delivery van. Our drivers have worked those blocks for years. Before dispatch we will ask two or three questions about your back lot, your gate width and where your receiving door sits, so the truck arrives knowing the plan. Newer parcels like the ones around Norwalk Town Square give us plenty of room.

Can I rent a freezer trailer for a single weekend event?

Yes. Weekend rentals are a large part of what we do in Norwalk, especially through quinceanera, wedding and graduation season and around the city event calendar. Typical pattern is delivery the day before, setup and a walkthrough with your team, then pickup the morning after. If you are vending at a public event, tell us early, because Los Angeles County wants a documented cold holding method on your temporary food facility application and it helps to have the trailer confirmed before you file.

What happens if the rental unit itself has a problem?

We swap it. That is the practical benefit of running the largest freezer trailer fleet in the region and owning it outright rather than brokering somebody else's equipment. If a unit acts up, another one is already staged and we move it, rather than putting your inventory on hold while a service call gets scheduled. Our dispatch operates 24 hours a day including weekends and holidays, which is when refrigeration tends to fail in the first place.

Is the trailer yours, or sourced from someone else?

We own them. KryoFridge is a direct owner operated company from a family that has been in the equipment and event rental business for more than 30 years, and we are fully insured with NSF certified trailers. When you call, you reach the company that actually holds the keys. That is also why our San Diego walk in freezer rentals, our Los Angeles coverage and our Norwalk coverage all behave the same way, because it is one fleet and one dispatch team, not a directory of subcontractors.

Why do so many Norwalk refrigeration failures happen in September?

Because that is when Southern California posts its most extreme heat, and because equipment has already worked a full summer by then. Norwalk recorded its all time high of 112 degrees on September 6, 2024. Santa Ana winds also start showing up in September, and they bring dry air, wind driven dust that packs condenser coils, and a higher chance of utility outages. Southern California Edison has scheduled planned outages during heat stretches that ran as long as eight hours in parts of Los Angeles County, which is far past the safe window for a loaded walk-in.

Can we hold frozen and chilled product in one trailer at once?

A single unit holds one set point at a time, so if you need both a frozen hold and a cooler hold simultaneously, the clean answer is two trailers. That is a common setup for caterers and supermarkets during a big project, and it is easy for us to arrange because of fleet depth. If you only need one and your product mix allows a single temperature, we will help you pick the set point that keeps everything safe.

The First Hour After a Walk-In Cooler Fails in a Norwalk Kitchen

The first hour decides how much a walk-in failure costs. Most Norwalk kitchens find out the same way, which is a cook noticing that the box feels wrong or a thermometer reading that has drifted since the last check. At that moment the food inside is still safe and still saleable. An hour later, depending on how full the box is and how hot the day has been, some of it may not be.

Start by not opening the door. Every time a walk-in door swings, warm air pours in and the recovery clock resets. If the compressor is down and the box is coasting on its own mass, a closed door buys you real time. Post someone at the door if you have to. Pull everything you need for the next two hours in one trip, then leave it shut. This single habit saves more product in Norwalk than anything else on this list.

Cold Storage Planning for Norwalk Events, From Holifield Park to Front Street Fridays

Norwalk runs a full public event calendar, and every one of those events brings food. The Independence Day Festival takes place at Holifield Park at 12500 Excelsior Drive, running from mid afternoon into the evening with fireworks at nine. Concerts in the Park fill the summer, the Arturo Sanchez Sr. Halloween Parade covers October, Front Street Fridays run through the year, and the Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting closes it out. On top of that sits enormous private volume, because this is a city of roughly 29,000 households where quinceaneras, weddings and graduation parties are large and catered.

The constraint at all of these is the same. Cooking capacity is rarely what limits a caterer. Cold holding is. A commissary kitchen with one walk-in can produce for a 400 guest event, but it cannot store for one, and a park or a rented hall has no commercial refrigeration at all. That gap is what a walk-in freezer trailer fills, either parked at the commissary through the production week or staged at the venue for the event itself.

September Heat, Santa Ana Winds and Why Norwalk Refrigeration Fails When It Does

Start with the temperature record. Norwalk sits about 92 feet above sea level, 17 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, in a Mediterranean climate with short warm summers and long cool winters. Average July highs run near 85 degrees with lows near 67. Those averages mislead, because Southern California heat arrives in spikes. The verified all time high for Norwalk is 112 degrees, recorded September 6, 2024.

Santa Ana winds compound it. These are strong, extremely dry downslope winds that push in from inland toward the coast, most commonly between September and May, and the City of Norwalk issues High Wind Advisory notices through its Ready Norwalk program when conditions warrant. Santa Ana events do three things at once. They drop humidity sharply, they push seasonal temperatures up, and they drive dust into condenser coils. That last effect is sneaky, because the failure often shows up a week or two after the wind has passed.

Temporary Cold Storage During a Norwalk Kitchen Remodel or Warehouse Freezer Buildout

Remodels and buildouts are the least dramatic and most predictable reason a Norwalk business rents cold storage, and they are also the easiest to get right, because unlike an emergency you get to pick the date. The mistake most owners make is treating cold storage as the last item on the schedule instead of the first.

Norwalk commercial building stock is mostly 1950s through 1980s construction, which means a steady pipeline of kitchen renovations and refrigeration replacements across the city. Chain restaurants run scheduled remodel cycles. Supermarkets run rolling refrigeration retrofits on their racks and cases. Independent kitchens along Firestone Boulevard and Imperial Highway eventually replace a walk-in that has been patched one time too many. In every one of those projects the refrigeration scope is usually the longest pole in the schedule.
