Oregon's Most Experienced Cold Storage Trailer Team

KryoFridge is the refrigeration side of a family rental company with more than 30 years in the equipment and event rental business, and we run one of the largest freezer and refrigerated trailer fleets in the West. We own our trailers and answer our own phones, so you deal with the company that holds the keys instead of a broker shopping your job around. Every unit is licensed, insured and NSF ready, and dispatch picks up 24 hours a day, which is the part that matters at 9 on a Friday night. The same fleet that backs national restaurant brands rolls to a packing house in Hood River or a grocery remodel in Beaverton. Pick up the phone or request an Oregon freezer trailer quote and we will hold a date for you.

Our freezer trailers are staged close enough to matter

Our trailers sit staged around Oregon, fueled, pre-cooled, and maintained in-house, parked and waiting for the call rather than being sourced after it. That is why an emergency call usually puts a unit on your lot and pulling temperature in about 45 minutes.

Our name is on the mobile cold storage units we deliver

The voice on the phone belongs to the same outfit that owns the trailer and sends the driver. No reseller in the middle quietly marking up somebody else's equipment while your inventory creeps past 40°F on the shelf.

The West's deepest bench of cold storage trailers

Every unit is ours to own, service, and deliver, and each one swings between deep-freeze and fresh-cold on a precise digital set-point. So we can size the answer to your Oregon job and turn it around the same day rather than putting you on next week's list.

The chains that rely on our temporary refrigeration units

National chains do not gamble on refrigeration. A drifting set-point during dinner rush can cost a brand a day of sales and a health-code headache, so the chains that scale fast vet a cold-storage partner the same careful way they vet a protein supplier. KryoFridge has held temperature for names like McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, and Dutch Bros, and earned the repeat call.

The stories behind that trust are the kind every restaurant owner recognizes. One Friday at 6:30 in the evening, a Chick-fil-A called in with a dead walk-in and a drive-through line already wrapped around the building. We prepped a trailer, dispatched it, and had it on their pad pulling temperature 34 minutes after the phone rang. The manager's first words when the driver pulled in were, "I cannot believe you are already here." That is the bar we hold ourselves to. Another year, an overnight outage shorted a cooler on the morning of a holiday rush, and our team staged three freezer trailers to hold every pie, every protein, and every prep tray so the kitchen served the rush without missing a ticket. The reason we hear some version of that line so often is the same every time: the equipment was already nearby, already cold, and owned by the people who answered the phone. That same standard travels to every Oregon job, from a one-cook taqueria to a distribution floor.

Three decades deep in the equipment-rental business, running the West Coast's biggest dual-purpose fleet of freezer and refrigeration trailers. Every unit ours, never a broker's.

Oregon customers on renting a cold storage trailer from us

"Our walk in quit on a Friday and I called expecting voicemail. Somebody picked up, asked two questions about the alley behind us, and there was a trailer in the loading zone before the dinner rush ended. We did not lose a case of product and we never closed the doors."

Andrew C., verified reviewerAndrew C. · restaurant owner, Central Eastside, Portland

"The January ice storm took our power on a Saturday with a full holiday delivery already in the building. They had a generator ready unit at our receiving dock before the next wave came through. We reopened Monday with our inventory instead of a dumpster full of it."

Yarelii E., verified reviewerYarelii E. · grocery store manager, Beaverton

"Crush ran long on a warm morning and the press was backed up. A trailer showed up the same afternoon and we held the bins overnight instead of pushing fruit through hot. It stayed with us through cold stabilization and the driver placed it exactly where we asked both times."

The unit we build our schedule around

Set points run from about 50 degrees down to minus 10 degrees, so the same unit that holds hard frozen crab at a Charleston plant in January can sit at 38 degrees for a Eugene caterer in August and stay under the 41 degree cold holding line in Oregon's food sanitation rules. Take a look at our refrigerated trailer lineup, then tell us the tightest corner of your lot and we will plan the placement before the truck leaves.

When the stakes are real, the 16' Utility is what we send. Sixteen feet of insulated, NSF-approved box on a tandem axle, running one precise digital set-point that covers deep freeze at -10°F all the way up to a 50°F cooler. The rear double doors handle pallet work off a dock, and the side utility door means a cook can pull one tray without letting the heat in.

The trailer that shows up is one of ours, prepped in our own shop, fueled and pre-cooled before it leaves the yard. It takes a dedicated 120V, 20-amp circuit or the generator we provide, and it will hold that set-point through a triple-digit stretch without drama.

Portland and the inner east side, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Portland and the inner east side

We drop freezer and cooler trailers into restaurant alleys along Hawthorne, Division, Mississippi and Alberta, into brewery and commissary yards through the Central Eastside, and into catering work around the Oregon Convention Center. Placements here are tight, so we walk the spot with you by phone or photo before the truck leaves.

Washington County and the west side, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Washington County and the west side

Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin, Sherwood and Forest Grove sit inside a short delivery band, and this is where the January 2024 ice storm hit hardest. Grocery docks and the Hillsboro data center yards both have room to work, so most placements are a straight back in the same morning.

Yamhill County wine country, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Yamhill County wine country

Newberg, Dundee, Dayton, Carlton, Yamhill, Amity and McMinnville all work to a harvest calendar that leaves no room for a late delivery, and we cover crush pads in September and October and bottling lines after. Winery yards are gravel with real turning room, so we set a unit and are gone inside an hour.

Salem, Albany, Corvallis and the mid valley, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Salem, Albany, Corvallis and the mid valley

Food processing plants, school district kitchens and the Oregon State Fairgrounds all sit in this stretch, along with Woodburn, Silverton, Keizer and Lebanon. Yards here are roomier than Portland and the Interstate 5 access is straightforward, which keeps same week delivery realistic in busy months.

Eugene, Springfield and the south valley, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Eugene, Springfield and the south valley

Autzen Stadium game days, campus dining programs and the restaurants along Willamette Street all generate cold holding that gets ahead of the buildings behind them, and Cottage Grove and Junction City fall in the same run. We stage units for game weekends and pull them Monday.

Bend, Redmond and Central Oregon, Oregon freezer trailer service area

Bend, Redmond and Central Oregon

The Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond runs more than 400 events a year, and the breweries and restaurants in Bend have outgrown the building stock around them. Prineville data center construction sits in the same band, so we plan Central Oregon runs around pass conditions.

More Ways Oregon Crews Use Portable Refrigeration

A great deal of perishable product moves through very short windows in this state. Crush lands in three weeks, the crab fleet unloads most of its season in the first month, and a downtown restaurant loses a walk in on the busiest night of the week. These are the three situations we get called for most, and every one of them starts with a phone call and a delivery window.

🍽 Grocery remodels and frozen aisle re racks

When a store pulls an aisle of frozen cases for two to four weeks, that inventory has to live somewhere that holds zero degrees without argument. We stage units at the receiving dock, the easiest placement in the state, and can run the same program across a whole district.

Oregon ranked sixth nationally by craft beer volume in 2025. Breweries in Bend, Portland, Hood River and Astoria call when a seasonal release lands all at once, when a glycol chiller fails, or when kegs have to sit cold at an outdoor festival for four days.

The Dungeness fleet front loads its season. Newport and Depoe Bay took 37 percent of the 2024 to 2025 landings and Astoria took 30 percent, which is why plants in those ports run short of holding capacity in January rather than in March.

A pre-cooled KryoFridge refrigerated trailer supporting Institutional and food bank storage in Oregon

🏭 Institutional and food bank storage

University dining programs, hospitals, school nutrition services and regional food banks hold frozen protein and chilled produce that cannot be allowed to warm. They buy through procurement, so we send certificates and documentation up front and hit the agreed date.

What ties these together is the clock. Nobody budgets a freezer trailer into next quarter. They reach for one the hour a compressor quits, or the evening before a party when the stack of rented ice chests suddenly looks laughably undersized. Since our units sit staged around Oregon instead of a couple counties down the freeway, "can I get it today" is an ordinary ask here, not a stretch.

How Oregon owners price out a failed cooler

Hard facts

Add it up the way an owner in Oregon has to. One restaurant walk-in routinely sits on a small fortune in proteins, dairy, and prepped product. Scale that to a grocery rack or a warehouse freezer bay and the exposure balloons. Now knock the power or the compressor out on a triple-digit afternoon, and that whole inventory is in jeopardy inside a few hours. Then stack on the sales you lose while the line sits dark and the wages you burn paying staff to triage what can still be saved.

Hold a pre-staged trailer up against that risk and it reads like cheap insurance, a fixed, predictable expense parked in front of a loss with no ceiling. That is exactly why the businesses that got stung once tape our number by the phone. There is never a second scramble, because the next time they dial before the product has a chance to warm. Owning every trailer ourselves means we can scale the answer to fit. A single compact box suits a corner cafe. A clustered setup covers a warehouse floor. Either turns around the same day.

Planning Around Oregon Heat Waves And Winter Ice Storms

Oregon has a reputation for mild weather, and that reputation is exactly why the state is underbuilt for the weather it actually gets. Commercial refrigeration here was specified for a climate with gentle summer maxima. Condensers sit on flat roofs and in unshaded alleys with very little margin, and they were not sized for a week like the one that arrived in June 2021.

Between June 24 and June 29 of that year a blocking ridge parked over the Pacific Northwest. Portland International Airport recorded 108 degrees on June 26, 112 degrees on June 27 and 116 degrees on June 28, and Salem's airport reached 117 degrees the same day. Portland also set an all time record warm overnight low of 75 degrees, which matters more to refrigeration than the daytime peak, because equipment that cannot shed heat overnight never recovers for the next day. One hundred and two people died of heat in Oregon during that event, and the equipment failures landed in a single 72 hour block across an entire metro area.

Winter turns the same argument around. From January 13 through January 20, 2024, waves of wind, snow and freezing rain crossed northwest Oregon. Portland General Electric reported about 270,000 customers out in the first wave with a Saturday peak above 160,000, roughly 109,000 lost power more than once, Beaverton, Tigard and Lake Oswego took the worst of it, and the map still showed 31,052 customers dark around Portland the following Tuesday. An outage that long writes off a walk in full of product unless the cold storage on site brings its own power.

Oregon under high heat, when a failing cooler becomes a portable refrigeration unit call

Cold Storage That Keeps Oregon Kitchens Open

Portland restaurants live in old buildings. The kitchens along Hawthorne, Division, Belmont, Mississippi and Alberta were retrofitted into structures that predate modern refrigeration entirely, and the walk in coolers behind them are often working harder than the day they were specified. When a compressor quits on a Friday night, the clock is not measured in days. It is measured in the hours before the product in that box crosses the 41 degree line that Oregon's food sanitation rules draw under OAR 333-150.

We keep freezer and refrigerated trailers staged for exactly that call. A unit arrives already pulled down, plugs into a generator or a standard 120 volt 20 amp circuit, and gives the kitchen a working cold box in the alley or the parking lot while the service company sorts out the building. Our authorized proof on this is a national chicken chain that called with a walk in down mid dinner rush and had a trailer prepped and rolling in 34 minutes.

A narrow brick service alley behind a restaurant in Portland's Central Eastside on a wet evening, a plain white refrigerated trailer backed into the loading zone with warm kitchen light spilling from the open back door and two cooks in aprons carrying sheet pans out to it

The planned version of this job is worth more to most customers than the emergency version. Restaurant groups replace refrigeration in the spring shoulder season, roughly February through May, so the new equipment is in before summer volume arrives. A trailer parked outside for three to eight weeks means the doors stay open through the work, and staying open beats every other number on the spreadsheet. Grocery stores do the same thing when they re rack a frozen aisle, and school districts and hospitals do it over summer and winter breaks when a kitchen comes offline.

Placement is the part we talk through first in this market. Central Eastside loading zones are shared with garbage service, the west side neighborhoods have grades that matter for leveling, and some blocks have bike lane and streetcar restrictions on where a truck can sit. Send us a photo of the spot or walk it with us on the phone and we will tell you honestly what fits. Call or send a quote request and we will put a date on it.

Harvest Season Refrigerated Trailer Rentals Across The Valley

Oregon's harvest calendar is a series of deadlines that do not move. Strawberries start in late May, raspberries follow in June, marionberries run mid July into August, boysenberries cover mid July to mid August, and blueberries carry from July into September. Growers here lead the country in frozen blackberry, marionberry and black raspberry production, and every one of those pieces of fruit has a field to cooler window measured in hours rather than days.

Wine crush is the tightest window of all. The 2023 census published by the Oregon Wine Board counted 1,143 bonded wineries and 1,512 vineyards statewide, with the Willamette Valley Wineries Association alone representing more than 400 members around Newberg, Dundee, Dayton, Carlton, Yamhill and McMinnville. Night picking is standard here because fruit temperature decides when fermentation starts. A refrigerated trailer at the crush pad gives a winemaker somewhere to hold bins through a morning that ran long, and it does the cold stabilization work later in the year when the one jacketed tank on site is already committed.

A gravel crush pad at a Willamette Valley winery in early October at first light, rows of vines on a hillside behind, a plain white refrigerated trailer parked beside stacked picking bins with two cellar workers in rubber boots wheeling a bin toward the open rear doors

The fruit side of the state has the same shape. Hood River County is the largest pear growing county in the United States with more than 12,000 acres of orchard, and Diamond Fruit Growers, the cooperative there, represents about 100 growers and packs over 55,000 tons of pears a year out of a house built in 1970 that pre sizes fruit on arrival and holds it cold until it is packed to order. Jackson County in the Rogue Valley picks earliest and the Upper Hood River Valley finishes last, so the overflow calls arrive in separate waves.

What every one of these customers actually buys is availability during a two to six week window. Yards at wineries, packing houses and processing plants are gravel or packed dirt with real room, so placement is quick and the truck is usually in and out the same morning. Fleet depth is the whole argument, because the grower who could not get a unit in 2022 is the grower who books early now. Get us the dates and we will reserve the units before the pick starts.

Event And Festival Cold Storage Trailers In Oregon

The outdoor season here is dense from June into September. The Portland Rose Festival runs through June, the Oregon Brewers Festival takes over Tom McCall Waterfront Park from the Thursday before the last full weekend in July through the last Sunday of the month, the Waterfront Blues Festival drew about 17,000 people across two days in 2025, and the Pendleton Round-Up brings roughly 50,000 people to eastern Oregon every September. None of those sites has permanent cold storage.

That is the whole problem in one sentence. Twenty to sixty food vendors on a park lawn or a closed street, each of them responsible under OAR 333-150 for holding potentially hazardous food at or below 41 degrees, and a county environmental health plan reviewer asking on paper how it will happen. One reefer trailer behind the vendor row with assigned shelves and documented pull times answers the plan check and the logistics question at the same time.

A summer outdoor festival vendor row on a park lawn beside the Willamette River in downtown Portland, food booths with open awnings along a gravel path, the Hawthorne Bridge in the background and a plain white refrigerated trailer parked at the end of the row with volunteers in shorts and caps carrying crates toward it

Indoor and stadium work draws from the same fleet. The Oregon Convention Center covers nearly a million square feet with 255,000 square feet of exhibit space and the largest ballroom in Portland at 35,000 square feet. The Moda Center seats 20,500 and sits a five minute walk away. Providence Park carries more than 18,500 square feet of meeting space across 25 rooms, Autzen Stadium in Eugene holds 54,000, and the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond runs more than 400 events a year. Caterers working those buildings routinely need more cold holding than the house kitchen can give them.

Event producers book early and care about two things above everything else, a delivery window they can put on a run of show and the ability to add a unit when the vendor count grows in the last two weeks. We do both, and we schedule the pickup at the same time we schedule the drop so nobody is chasing a truck on teardown day. Send us the site plan and we will size it with you on the first call.

A working guide to set points

"Cold" is not one number. Different product stays safe inside different temperature windows, which is the entire reason a precise digital set-point matters, and in the middle of a heat wave in Oregon, a load that slips out of its window is a load you write off. Use the chart below as the reference our customers lean on when they size a rental.

ProductTarget holding bandTrailer mode
Ice cream and frozen desserts-10°F to 0°FDeep freeze
Frozen proteins, seafood, prepared meals0°F or belowFreezer
Fresh meat and poultry (short hold)28°F to 32°FRefrigerated
Dairy, deli, packaged produce34°F to 38°FRefrigerated
Beverages, florals, catering trays38°F to 45°FRefrigerated

One figure outranks everything in that chart, and it is not listed there: 40°F. Food-safety guidance treats the band between 40°F and 140°F as the zone where bacteria thrive, and the clock on perishable product starts ticking the moment it crosses 40 on the way up. Roughly four cumulative hours above that line and most refrigerated inventory is no longer safe to serve. Picture that countdown running on a 100-degree afternoon in Oregon with the walk-in dark, and the urgency of a quick trailer drop stops being abstract.

Tell us the single coldest item you are holding when you call, and we dial the trailer to that. One unit carries a straight freezer load with no fuss. But when your list mixes deep-freeze desserts with fresh-cold produce for the same remodel or event, we will usually point you toward a split setup or a second box so neither side of the load has to settle for the wrong temperature.

Getting a Oregon site ready for a walk-in freezer rental

Powering one of our trailers is refreshingly simple, and there are precisely two ways to do it. Either you have a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit reachable within roughly 100 feet of the parking spot, or we bring a generator. What the units will not accept is standard 208 to 240V building service, so a quick question about your outlet before dispatch heads off any surprise on delivery day.

  • Dedicated outlet on hand? Most Oregon kitchens and markets already have the right one, so we plug straight in and the unit begins pulling the temperature down.
  • Open lot or event field? A generator keeps the trailer running anywhere, whether that is an event lawn or a warehouse yard.
  • Worried about a shutoff? A unit on a generator keeps your cold chain alive when a fire-season power shutoff takes the surrounding grid down.
A clean white KryoFridge walk-in freezer trailer on generator power in Oregon

On placement, all the unit really asks for is a fairly flat patch with enough room for the delivery truck to maneuver it in and set it straight, plus either a power source in reach or space for a generator. We lock down the exact drop point before dispatch, and our drivers know the Oregon layout cold, so the delivery is one clean trip instead of a guessing game on the property.

How Oregon loading docks put our walk-in freezer rental to work

On our end

Grocery manager, Beaverton, January ice storm

Power went out Saturday afternoon and the store had already taken a full holiday delivery. We had a generator ready trailer at the receiving dock before the second wave of freezing rain came through, and the frozen and dairy inventory moved into it in about two hours. The store reopened Monday with its product intact.

Winemaker, Yamhill County, harvest week

A block came in warmer than planned on a long morning and the press was already backed up. We put a refrigerated trailer on the crush pad the same day so the bins could hold overnight, and fermentation started on the winemaker's schedule instead of the fruit's. The unit stayed through cold stabilization in November.

Plant supervisor, Charleston, December crab opener

The fleet came in heavy in the first ten days after the opener and the plant ran out of freezer room by the second weekend. Two trailers went into the yard beside the dock and the plant kept receiving instead of turning boats away. We pulled them in February when the pace settled.

One fleet, every corner of a very wide state. Oregon is roughly 400 miles across, and the places that need cold storage most are usually furthest from it. We run one fleet and one dispatch desk for all of it, from a Portland alley to a harbor apron in Charleston to a fairground in Pendleton, and we schedule the long hauls with a real window instead of a guess. That same fleet backs our California cold storage trailer rentals, which is why we can add a unit in Bend during fair week when a smaller yard would have to say no.

How a temporary refrigeration rental in Oregon actually goes

On a bad day, booking should be the part that does not add stress. Four steps, an upfront number, and a single person who owns the whole thing.

1. Give us the product and the dates

Tell us whether it is freezer or fridge product, a ballpark volume, and your rough window. That is enough for us to call the right size.

Then · We pick the trailer and the parking spot

We pair you with a unit, confirm whether you have a dedicated circuit or need a generator, and pin the exact drop point so the truck makes one trip.

Step 3 · Delivery, hookup and cold-down

We arrive on your schedule, about 45 minutes for a true emergency, set the trailer, energize it, and let it drive down to your number.

Step four: Run it, and service stays ours

It holds the set-point for your entire term while our line stays live the whole way through. Wrap up, and we swing back for the pickup.

Food Safety And Heat Rules Shaping Oregon Cold Storage

Rules worth planning around

Oregon's food sanitation rules live in OAR 333-150, administered by the Oregon Health Authority's Food, Pool and Lodging program with county environmental health departments doing the inspecting. The line every customer of ours works to is 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below for potentially hazardous food. That single number is why a temporary event with a vendor row needs a documented cold holding plan on its plan check. Multnomah, Washington, Marion, Lane and Deschutes counties each publish their own temporary event guidance on top of the state rule, so we ask which county you are in before we size the job.

Oregon OSHA's heat illness prevention rule, OAR 437-002-0156, was adopted on May 9, 2022 and applies to indoor and outdoor work whenever the heat index reaches 80 degrees, with the fuller set of obligations landing at 90 degrees for most workloads. Buildings kept below an 80 degree heat index by mechanical ventilation are exempt. On a job site or an event ground in July, that rule and a cold storage need arrive the same day, and one pad with a trailer, cold water and a shaded break area handles both. The wildfire smoke rule, OAR 437-002-1081, triggers at PM2.5 of 35.5 micrograms per cubic meter, an air quality index of 101.

At the federal level, OSHA published its proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention standard on August 30, 2024, setting an initial heat trigger at a heat index of 80 degrees and a high heat trigger at 90 degrees. More than 43,000 comments came in before the period closed in January 2025, and additional comment was accepted through October 30, 2025. The standard is still proposed, and we describe it that way every time. Experienced Oregon crews plan for both thresholds anyway, because the state rule is enforceable today.

How our rental freezer trailers hold up in a food-safety check

  • NSF-approved interior surfaces built for direct food contact.
  • A digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view for the inspector.
  • Proper drainage and a sealed, food-safe insulated box.
  • Licensed and insured on every unit we put on the road.

One caveat we always state plainly: we supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service. If your program requires continuous written records, line that vendor up on your own.

Which walk-in freezer rental size fits the job

Our signature 16 foot Utility series leads the fleet. It is the trailer we send on most jobs, and crews like it for the side utility access door. We build three footprints in all, so a single kitchen holding overflow stock has a fit and so does a distribution floor in a disaster. Every unit is dual purpose by design: one adjustable system swings between freezer and refrigerator on a digital set point. Each trailer runs on a dedicated circuit or on a generator.

Each unit holds a precise digital set-point and runs on a dedicated 120V/20A circuit or a generator.

The compact 6x8, the one that fits a tight parking spot

Think eight or so pallet spots, and the unit to grab when square footage is the whole problem. It slips into the pinched service yards and cramped back-of-house corners that a larger box cannot even swing into. One cafe or small-market walk-in goes down, and this is almost always enough cold to cover it, plus the simplest unit to set in a small space.

6x12, the standard footprint

Call it fourteen pallet spots, deep-freeze rated, and far and away the size people ask for most. It lands right in the middle: roomy enough for a multi-day catering job or a restaurant that needs true walk-in-equivalent room while the kitchen is torn up. Roomy enough that nobody is playing Tetris with shelves, yet still small enough to set in most commercial back lots without a site survey.

The full-size 6x16, the heavy hauler for distribution and disaster

Roughly twenty pallet spots paired with a heavy-duty reefer plant engineered to keep deep-freeze locked in even when the ambient air is merciless. Reach for it when a warehouse bay drops, when a large festival needs an anchor, or when a relief operation is carrying its own cold chain.

Not sure which size fits? Most customers land on the 16 foot Utility, and we will tell you honestly if a smaller footprint covers your job. Tell us roughly what you are storing and for how long, and we will spec it for you.

The refrigerated box truck. Designed to haul product on the interstate, not to sit in a lot and babysit it. Parked, it idles fuel all day, broadcasts compressor noise across a storefront or an event lawn, and pins down a tractor plus a driver you probably do not need.

The freezer trailer we deliver. Built from the ground up to be dropped on a pad and to defend a temperature for as long as the job runs. It freezes deep, carries NSF approval, locks, stays quiet near guests, and lives on nothing more than one dedicated circuit or a generator.

Food-safe construction and a county inspection

Even a rented box has to satisfy the county environmental health office that licenses and inspects every food facility. Show an inspector a unit that cannot document its temperature or was not built for food contact, and they have the authority to halt service immediately.

That is a bar each of our trailers clears: NSF-approved throughout, food-safe interior surfaces, proper drainage, and a digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view. We supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service.

Clustering cold storage trailers for a big event

For a typical kitchen or market, one box does the job. Distribution floors, big fairs, and full-scale disaster response routinely need more, and because the fleet is ours, we can cluster several units and bring them online in waves as the work expands. Match the cold capacity to the operation rather than make the operation squeeze itself into one box.

Renting for a contract: emergency drop or contract term

The clock is yours to set. Some jobs are a handful of days for an emergency or a single event. Others stretch across weeks or months for a remodel or a seasonal swell, and a few become standing contracts for businesses that want capacity parked on standby. Name your window and you will get a clean quote, no penalty for an honest "not sure yet."

Why an expanding operation usually rents instead of building

Building permanent cold storage is a capital project in every sense: you hire a refrigeration contractor, schedule the electrical, pull a building permit, and wait weeks before a single pallet goes inside. A rental turns that equation on its head. You bring in precisely the cold you need, for precisely the stretch you need it, and the trailer is holding temperature that same week, frequently that same day, with the commitment ending the moment your need is over.

Holding temperature through desert heat

Three engineered elements carry the load. Thick insulated panels and tightly gasketed doors lock the sun outside and the cold inside. A self-contained reefer condensing system specified with surplus capacity keeps stripping heat out of the box even when the air outside is brutal. And a digital thermostat locks onto your chosen number and cycles the compressor to hold the line. Run those three together and a trailer baking on open asphalt behaves like one tucked in a cool warehouse. That is also why power is the first thing we ask about: the design delivers its safety margin only on steady, uninterrupted power.

Beyond the first few: more Oregon restaurants

"Forty something food vendors at the Expo Center and no shared cold plan. One trailer behind the vendor row answered the county plan check and the logistics problem in one move. We assigned shelves and pull times and the inspector had nothing to write up."

"We replaced both walk ins over summer break and needed cold storage for eleven weeks. The paperwork side was easy and the insurance certificate came before I asked for it. The unit held temperature through the August heat without a single service call."

"Our glycol chiller failed on a Sunday with a seasonal release already in kegs. Dispatch answered at 6 in the morning and we had a refrigerated trailer on the pad by early afternoon. Zero beer dumped, which I did not expect when I made the call."

"Autzen game weekends are all volume and no storage. We book a unit Thursday and they take it back Monday, every home game, same window every time. It is the least dramatic part of my whole operation and I mean that as high praise."

John H., verified reviewerJohn H. · caterer, Eugene

"The pick compressed on us when the weather turned and we ran out of pre size holding. They put a unit in our yard in under two days from a call and never once made me chase the driver for a time. I have their number in my phone now, not in a folder."

Shannon B., verified reviewerShannon B. · packing house scheduler, Hood River

"A fire evacuation put four times our normal frozen volume through the building in one week. Two trailers arrived with generator hookups and we ran them in the back lot for a month. They never asked us to figure out the power side ourselves."

Everything Oregon distributors want to know about refrigerated trailer rentals

How fast can a freezer trailer get to my site in Oregon?

In the Portland metro and the Willamette Valley we can usually deliver same day or next day for an emergency, because that is where most of our Oregon volume sits. Coast, Central Oregon and eastern Oregon deliveries get a scheduled window instead, since US 101, Santiam Pass and Interstate 84 through the Gorge all carry real weather risk. We would rather give you an honest window and hit it than promise a time and miss it. Call dispatch and we will tell you what is realistic for your address before you commit to anything.

What temperature will the trailer hold?

Set points run from roughly 50 degrees down to minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit, so one unit covers hard frozen storage and chilled holding. For food service customers that means you can sit at 38 or 40 degrees and stay comfortably under the 41 degree cold holding line in Oregon's food sanitation rules, or drop to zero for frozen cases. Tell us what is going in and we will set it before delivery so it is already at temperature when the doors open.

What power does a refrigerated trailer need?

A generator or a standard 120 volt 20 amp circuit. That is deliberately simple, because the jobs that need us most are often the jobs where the building power is exactly the thing that failed. If you are running on a generator we will talk through the hookup before delivery so nothing is a surprise on site. If you are plugging into the building, we will ask which circuit and what else is on it.

Will it keep working through a Portland area power outage?

On generator power, yes. That is the entire reason storm response is one of our biggest use cases in this state. During the January 2024 ice storm, Portland General Electric had roughly 270,000 customers out in the first wave and more than 31,000 still out days later, and the businesses that saved their inventory were the ones whose cold storage brought its own power. Book early in a forecast storm window if you can, because that is when the fleet moves fastest.

Do I need a permit to park a cold storage trailer at an Oregon event?

The permitting you deal with is usually the county environmental health review of your food operation under OAR 333-150, not a separate permit for the trailer itself. Reviewers want to see how potentially hazardous food will be held at or below 41 degrees at a site with no building, and a refrigerated trailer with assigned shelving and documented pull times is a clean answer to that question. Your county is always the authority, so check with Multnomah, Washington, Marion, Lane, Deschutes or whichever county you are in. We are happy to give you the equipment details their form asks for.

How long can I rent one for?

From a single weekend through several months. Event rentals are typically three to five days, restaurant and grocery remodel jobs run two weeks to three months, harvest and crush rentals cover a two to six week window, and institutional kitchen replacements often run a full summer break. There is no requirement to guess the end date perfectly at booking. Tell us your best estimate and we will adjust the pickup when you know more.

Where can the trailer actually be placed on my property?

Level ground with truck access, which covers most yards, docks, gravel pads and parking lots without any trouble. The placements that need a conversation first are Portland alleys, older restaurant blocks with shared loading zones, and west side properties with grades that affect leveling. Send us a photo or walk the spot with us on the phone and we will tell you straight whether it fits before a truck is dispatched. You can also look through our refrigerated trailer rental questions if you want the short version first.

Do you deliver to the Oregon Coast and eastern Oregon?

Yes. We deliver everywhere in the state and across all 50 states, and coastal seafood plants and eastern Oregon agriculture are two of our steadier segments here. Scheduling changes on those runs, availability does not. Long hauls to Charleston, Brookings, Ontario or Burns get a confirmed window built around highway and pass conditions rather than a same day promise.

What about Oregon heat and wildfire smoke rules on my job site?

Oregon OSHA's heat illness prevention rule applies at a heat index of 80 degrees under OAR 437-002-0156, with fuller obligations at 90 degrees, and the wildfire smoke rule under OAR 437-002-1081 triggers at an air quality index of 101 for fine particulate. Federal OSHA has a proposed heat standard with the same 80 and 90 degree triggers, and it remains proposed. One pad with cold storage, cold water and a shaded break area covers the equipment need and the crew need at once, which is why summer job sites often order both from us together.

What Oregon Restaurants Should Do In The First Hour Of A Walk In Cooler Failure

The first hour decides how much of this costs you. When a walk in compressor quits in a Portland kitchen, the box does not warm evenly and it does not warm slowly at the start. Product near the door and near the top of the box climbs first, and the readings you take in the first fifteen minutes are the ones that tell you whether you are managing a temporary problem or documenting a loss. Get a calibrated thermometer into the product itself, not the air, and write down the time and the reading. Every decision after this is easier if you have that number.

The line you are working against is 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Oregon's food sanitation rules, OAR 333-150, adopt the cold holding requirement for potentially hazardous food at or below that temperature, and county environmental health departments enforce it. Product that is still at or under 41 degrees is product you can save. Product above it enters a judgment call that depends on how long it has been there and what it is, and your county health department is the authority on where that judgment lands. Nobody benefits from guessing on that question after the fact.

Cold Storage Planning For Willamette Valley Wineries During Crush

Crush is the shortest deadline in Oregon agriculture. The 2023 census published by the Oregon Wine Board counted 1,143 bonded wineries and 1,512 vineyards in the state, both up about two percent year over year, and the Willamette Valley Wineries Association alone represents more than 400 members. Most of those operations bring the year's fruit in across roughly three to five weeks in September and October. Everything that goes wrong in that window is expensive, and most of what goes wrong is a temperature problem.

Fruit temperature at the press decides when fermentation starts, which is why night and early morning picking is standard practice in this valley rather than a preference. Fruit picked at 45 degrees and pressed within a few hours behaves. Fruit picked at 45 degrees and left in bins on a warm afternoon does not, and by the time it reaches the press the winemaker is managing a fermentation that already began without permission. The gap between those two outcomes is usually a few hours of holding capacity that the winery did not have.

Oregon Heat And Wildfire Smoke Rules: What Summer Job Sites Owe Their Crews

Oregon has two of the more specific worker protection rules in the country for summer conditions, and both of them were adopted in May 2022 after the June 2021 heat dome and the fire seasons around it. If you run a job site, a packing house yard, a construction project or an outdoor event in this state between June and September, both rules are likely to apply to you, and knowing the trigger numbers is most of the work.

The heat rule is OAR 437-002-0156, adopted May 9, 2022. It applies whenever an employee works indoors or outdoors where the heat index equals or exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Employers whose employees perform rest or light workloads are exempt from certain requirements when the heat index is below 90 degrees, so the practical shape is that 80 degrees starts the obligations and 90 degrees brings the full set. Buildings and structures with mechanical ventilation that keeps the heat index below 80 degrees are exempt from the rule's requirements entirely.

Why Oregon Coast Seafood Plants Run Out Of Freezer Space In January

The Dungeness crab fishery is the signature commercial fishery on this coast, and its calendar is the reason coastal cold storage demand looks nothing like a smooth line. The 2024 to 2025 season opened on December 16, 2024 after delays for quality testing, and the fleet landed roughly 15.7 million pounds against a ten year average nearer 18 million. By ex vessel value it was the most lucrative season on record for the Oregon fleet.

Where that product lands is concentrated. Newport and Depoe Bay together took 37 percent of the 2024 to 2025 landings, Astoria took 30 percent, Charleston at Coos Bay took 14 percent, Garibaldi with Nehalem and Pacific City took 8 percent, Gold Beach and Brookings 5 percent, Florence and Winchester Bay 4 percent, and Bandon with Port Orford 3 percent. Two port clusters account for two thirds of the fishery, and the plants in them are sized against an annual average rather than an opening week.
