In short

Austin's most-requested temporary cold storage rentals

The kitchens, distributors, and event venues that cannot afford a temperature miss are the ones that keep our number on the wall. National brands call us first. So do independent Austin businesses, because we run this fleet directly, licensed and insured, with no broker standing between you and the trailer. Ask about our dual-purpose freezer trailers and we will walk you through capacity, power, and delivery before you book. Call now or request a free quote, and we will get a unit staged before your next shift starts.

One trailer, two temperatures

Every unit adjusts from about 50 degrees down to negative 10, so the same trailer holding a grocery order this week can run frozen for a caterer next month.

We own the fleet we send you

KryoFridge runs its own trailers directly. Nobody hands your rental off to a broker who has never seen the unit.

Decades in the rental trade, not a startup

This company has run rental equipment for more than 30 years. That is a long time to learn what actually breaks and how to fix it fast.

Licensed and insured, on paper and in practice

SAM.gov registration, insurance certificates, and the paperwork agencies and big brands ask for are already handled before you ever call.

Trusted by the brands that cannot afford a miss

National quick-service chains keep our number because a failed walk-in mid-shift is not a problem they can wait out.

Local staging, not a long-distance promise

Our Austin-area trailers are staged and serviced in Central Texas, not shipped in from out of state after you call.

National accounts on our rental freezer trailers route

The names below have all run our trailers on real jobs. When a brand this size hands you their frozen inventory, they have already checked everything worth checking.

Austin customers on renting temporary refrigeration from us

"Our walk-in died on a Saturday night and they had a trailer running in our lot before the dinner rush even started. Didn't lose a single case."

Marcus Webb · kitchen manager, South Congress

"We rented ahead of a big holiday order instead of hoping the backroom cooler could handle it. Best call we made all season. The unit held steady the whole two weeks and pickup was as easy as delivery."

Priya Chandran · produce buyer, Round Rock grocery

"Wedding season out here gets backed up fast. Having a second cold box on hand meant we could take on an extra Saturday booking we would have had to turn down otherwise."

Devon Ashworth · event caterer, Dripping Springs

The flagship 16' Utility refrigeration trailer, pre-cooled for rental in Austin
16' insulated boxRear double doors + side utility third door-10°F to +50°F range120V/20A or generatorTandem axle

Ask any of our drivers which trailer they would send to a job that cannot fail, and they will point at the 16' Utility. Sixteen feet of insulated box rides on a tandem axle and swings from deep-freeze to fresh-cold on one digital set-point, every interior surface NSF approved. The rear doors swallow pallets off a loading dock while the side utility door gives your staff a quick in and out without dumping the cold air.

Every one of these is ours, not a unit we sourced from somebody else after you called. That means it arrives fueled, already pulled down to temperature, and serviced by our own shop. Plug it into a dedicated 120V, 20-amp circuit or run it on a generator we bring, and it will hold its number through the hottest week of the year.

Refrigerated trailer rentals across the greater Austin area

We stage units close to where the work actually happens, from downtown kitchens to the fast-growing suburbs ringing the city, so a Round Rock grocery store and a Dripping Springs wedding venue both get the same delivery window.

Neighborhoods and towns we cover include Downtown Austin, East Austin, South Congress, South Lamar, North Austin, The Domain, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Pflugerville, Hutto, Taylor, Manor, Elgin, Bastrop, Del Valle, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Liberty Hill.

Communities near Austin we run mobile cold storage units to

Each community around Austin has its own venues, its own events, and its own cold storage headaches. We work all of them.

Downtown and East Austin

Dense restaurant blocks, food halls like Fareground, and a nonstop events calendar mean tight lots and tighter timelines. We deliver where a full-size truck barely fits.

South Austin, Buda, and Kyle

New H-E-B development, fast residential growth, and a busy independent restaurant scene along South Congress and South Lamar all draw on the same overworked cold storage.

Dripping Springs and the Hill Country

Wineries, wedding venues, and ranch events out here run without a commercial kitchen next door. A staged trailer often is the kitchen's only backup.

North Austin, the Domain, and Pflugerville

Retail buildouts and restaurant openings move fast in this corridor, and a new location's walk-in rarely passes inspection on the same day the doors open.

Taylor, Hutto, and the Samsung corridor

Semiconductor and data center construction has brought thousands of workers to towns that were not built for that kind of daily cafeteria volume.

Bastrop and Elgin

Smaller towns east of Austin still run real grocery and event demand, and we do not treat them as an afterthought just because they sit past the city line.

A KryoFridge cold storage trailer covering Holiday volume at grocery and specialty stores work in Austin

🚨 Holiday volume at grocery and specialty stores

Thanksgiving and December bring a predictable spike that most walk-ins were never sized for. We book that capacity months ahead when a store plans that far out.

What ties these together is the clock. Nobody budgets a freezer trailer into next quarter. They reach for one the hour a compressor quits, or the evening before a party when the stack of rented ice chests suddenly looks laughably undersized. Since our units sit staged around Austin instead of a couple counties down the freeway, "can I get it today" is an ordinary ask here, not a stretch.

The arithmetic behind renting a walk-in freezer rental in Austin

Up front

Add it up the way an owner in Austin has to. One restaurant walk-in routinely sits on a small fortune in proteins, dairy, and prepped product. Scale that to a grocery rack or a warehouse freezer bay and the exposure balloons. Now knock the power or the compressor out on a triple-digit afternoon, and that whole inventory is in jeopardy inside a few hours. Then stack on the sales you lose while the line sits dark and the wages you burn paying staff to triage what can still be saved.

Hold a pre-staged trailer up against that risk and it reads like cheap insurance, a fixed, predictable expense parked in front of a loss with no ceiling. That is exactly why the businesses that got stung once tape our number by the phone. There is never a second scramble, because the next time they dial before the product has a chance to warm. Owning every trailer ourselves means we can scale the answer to fit. A single compact box suits a corner cafe. A clustered setup covers a warehouse floor. Either turns around the same day.

Why Austin's summers push cold storage past its limit

On July 22, 2026, statewide air-conditioning demand pushed ERCOT's grid past 91 gigawatts for the first time, a new peak near 91,300 megawatts, beating the prior record of roughly 85.5 gigawatts from August 2023. ERCOT held the line that day with more than 20 gigawatts of reserve and no conservation call. But the same week, a substation failure in southwest Austin cut power to 6,400 Austin Energy customers, restored only after crews worked through the night.

That is the pattern worth understanding: the statewide grid usually holds, but a local feeder or substation does not always cooperate, and a kitchen or a grocery cooler does not care which kind of outage takes it down. A compressor working overtime through weeks of triple-digit heat fails the same way a compressor loses power in a storm. Either way, the product inside needs somewhere else to go, fast.

Winter swings hard the other direction. Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 damaged Austin Water's system and left a boil-water notice across part of the city, and the February 2023 ice storm left half of Austin Energy's customers without power at some point that week. A refrigerated trailer sized for summer heat handles a hard freeze just as well. It is the same box either way, built to hold its temperature setting no matter what the weather outside is doing.

Backup cold storage trailer rentals for Austin grocers

H-E-B is still building here. Hays County approved a new store for Buda on the I-35 frontage road, on a former landfill site, with construction slated for 2026. Central Market, H-E-B's specialty grocery concept, opened its first store on North Lamar in January 1994 and still runs the largest retail seafood department in Texas, 75 linear feet with more than 100 varieties, plus a full cheese and bakery program. A store built around that much fresh, perishable variety carries less slack cold storage than a shelf-stable aisle does, so a remodel or a compressor problem hits harder there than it would somewhere else.

Grid trouble is not theoretical here. The February 2023 ice storm knocked out power to more than 170,000 Austin Energy customers at its peak, and H-E-B's own Mueller and Far West locations could not hold perishables through the outage. Product had to be pulled and thrown out. That is the exact case a portable freezer trailer is built for: park it in the lot, run it off a dedicated circuit or a generator, and keep product cold while the store's own system gets fixed.

A KryoFridge trailer staged in a grocery store parking lot beside a loading dock, cases of produce being wheeled toward it

Farmers markets carry the same risk on a smaller scale. The SFC Farmers' Market Downtown has run Saturdays at Republic Square Park since 2003, and the Texas Farmers' Market at Mueller draws more than 60 producer-only vendors every Sunday selling meat, dairy, and produce sourced within 150 miles. None of those vendors have a walk-in on site. They run off a van cooler with zero backup, and a hot Saturday with a mechanical problem is a market day gone.

Thanksgiving and the winter holiday run push more turkey, ham, and prepared food through a Central Texas grocery store than any other stretch of the year, and it lands on the same date every year, which means it is one of the few crunches a store can actually plan for. A produce department staging ahead of that volume, or a bakery holding pie inventory a week early, runs into the same wall a remodel does. The walk-in was built for a normal Tuesday, not for the one week a year that never behaves like one.

The trailer built to run either way

One trailer, two jobs. Every KryoFridge unit adjusts from around 50 degrees down to negative 10, so the same trailer holding a grocer's dairy overflow this month can run as a hard freezer for a caterer's protein order next month. We do not hand you a fixed-temperature box and hope it fits. We run nationwide freezer trailer rentals off the same fleet and the same rulebook everywhere we work, so what you get in Austin is exactly what a Chick-fil-A or a Panda Express gets anywhere else in the country.

KryoFridge also handles Tempe, Arizona freezer trailer rentals under the same company, and every trailer we send out here in Central Texas is staged and serviced locally, not shipped in from another state. That matters on a Friday afternoon when a compressor quits and you need a unit on your lot, not a promise about next week. We are a direct owner-operated fleet, not a broker reselling someone else's equipment, backed by more than 30 years in the rental industry.

Power is simple by design: a generator we provide, or a dedicated 120 volt, 20 amp circuit within 100 feet of the trailer. No 208 to 240 volt configuration, no guessing. A digital control holds the temperature setting you dial in. The surfaces are built for food contact. And we clean and stage every unit before it leaves the yard so it is ready to load the moment it lands.

Mobile refrigeration rentals for Austin catering and event kitchens

Austin's barbecue trade moves a volume of meat most kitchens never touch. And it never really lets up. Franklin Barbecue grew from a backyard smoker into the operation most people cite as the Texas brisket standard, and La Barbecue has served since 2012. Terry Black's Barbecue, founded in 2014 with a flagship on Barton Springs Road, caters large groups directly, which means staging meat well beyond what an on-site cooler can hold. Austin counted 384 active food trucks as of August 2026, and every one of them runs under a licensed commissary agreement filed with Austin Public Health. A single commissary walk-in failure does not sideline one truck. It sidelines every truck that depends on that kitchen that week.

Named local caterers working weddings and corporate events across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Dripping Springs include Contigo Catering, Urban Cowboy Catering, Royal Fig Catering, Crave Catering, and PEJ Events, alongside food-truck-turned-catering shops like The Peached Tortilla. A 500-person conference dinner or a Hill Country wedding routinely needs more cold holding than a rented kitchen has on hand, especially when the whole menu is scratch-made and delivered rather than plated in-house.

A catering crew loading chafing pans and sealed food containers into a KryoFridge trailer parked behind an event tent at dusk

The event calendar here is relentless. Austin City Limits runs Zilker Park across two weekends every October, SXSW spreads catering demand over dozens of downtown venues every March, Rodeo Austin draws more than 250,000 visitors to the Travis County Exposition Center, and the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas pulls weekend crowds past 400,000 with paddock-level hospitality. Every one of those is a short, hard peak. Full cold-chain capacity for a handful of days, then gone. That is the case for a rented trailer instead of a permanent walk-in nobody needs the other 350 days of the year.

UT Austin runs its own scale of demand on top of all that. Forty Acres Catering serves the campus community, Sodexo Live! runs concessions at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, and the Moody Center's cashless concessions pour through Stubb's Bar-B-Q and Tony C's stands for concerts and Longhorns basketball alike. Q2 Stadium's 512 Food Co. lineup, built with hospitality partner Levy, stages Tacodeli and La Barbecue stands for every Austin FC match. None of those venues build permanent cold storage for their single busiest night. They stage it, use it, and send it back.

Walk-in freezer trailer rentals for Austin florists and nurseries

Cut flowers hold at roughly 34 to 38 degrees with steady humidity and gentle airflow. Too cold damages the bloom, too warm cuts short the vase life the customer already paid for. Once a stem is cut, a florist has about five days to get it from farm to shelf before it starts losing value. Five days, not five weeks. Austin Flower Co. sources direct from growers in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Costa Rica, among others, bringing flowers in daily by refrigerated truck and air cargo and supplying most of the independent florist shops around the city.

Valentine's Day accounts for close to 30 percent of annual flower sales industry-wide, and it lands in the same February window Central Texas has already proven can turn into an ice storm or a hard freeze. A cold snap that damages a sourcing farm's crop right before the holiday forces a scramble to bring flowers in from further away on a tighter clock, which means more product sitting in transit and needing cold storage the moment it lands. Mother's Day brings a second spike in May, layered on top of Central Texas heat that is already climbing by then.

Buckets of fresh cut flowers being loaded into a KryoFridge trailer outside a wholesale flower shop early in the morning

Nursery stock carries its own version of the same risk. Native Texas Nursery sells plant material to the nursery and landscape trade across the Austin area, and a hard freeze or an early heat spike can wipe out a season's inventory if there is nowhere protected to hold it. A grower who books a temporary cold storage rental ahead of a known cold snap, rather than after the plants have already suffered, is buying insurance against exactly the kind of freeze-then-heat swing this region delivers most years.

A florist and a restaurant kitchen are asking for different things from the same box. Food needs to stay at or under 41 degrees under Austin Public Health rules. Flowers want a narrower, gentler band with humidity control. We set the trailer to the job, walk through the temperature setting with you before delivery, and never assume one setting fits everything you are holding.

Choosing a freezer set point for your product

"Cold" is not one number. Different product stays safe inside different temperature windows, which is the entire reason a precise digital set-point matters, and in the middle of a heat wave in Austin, a load that slips out of its window is a load you write off. Use the chart below as the reference our customers lean on when they size a rental.

ProductTarget holding bandTrailer mode
Ice cream and frozen desserts-10°F to 0°FDeep freeze
Frozen proteins, seafood, prepared meals0°F or belowFreezer
Fresh meat and poultry (short hold)28°F to 32°FRefrigerated
Dairy, deli, packaged produce34°F to 38°FRefrigerated
Beverages, florals, catering trays38°F to 45°FRefrigerated

One figure outranks everything in that chart, and it is not listed there: 40°F. Food-safety guidance treats the band between 40°F and 140°F as the zone where bacteria thrive, and the clock on perishable product starts ticking the moment it crosses 40 on the way up. Roughly four cumulative hours above that line and most refrigerated inventory is no longer safe to serve. Picture that countdown running on a 100-degree afternoon in Austin with the walk-in dark, and the urgency of a quick trailer drop stops being abstract.

Tell us the single coldest item you are holding when you call, and we dial the trailer to that. One unit carries a straight freezer load with no fuss. But when your list mixes deep-freeze desserts with fresh-cold produce for the same remodel or event, we will usually point you toward a split setup or a second box so neither side of the load has to settle for the wrong temperature.

Electrical and access for a cold storage trailer around Austin

Powering one of our trailers is refreshingly simple, and there are precisely two ways to do it. Either you have a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit reachable within roughly 100 feet of the parking spot, or we bring a generator. What the units will not accept is standard 208 to 240V building service, so a quick question about your outlet before dispatch heads off any surprise on delivery day.

  • Dedicated outlet on hand? Most Austin kitchens and markets already have the right one, so we plug straight in and the unit begins pulling the temperature down.
  • Open lot or event field? A generator keeps the trailer running anywhere, whether that is an event lawn or a warehouse yard.
  • Worried about a shutoff? A unit on a generator keeps your cold chain alive when a fire-season power shutoff takes the surrounding grid down.
Power hookup on a KryoFridge mobile cold storage unit placed at an Austin property

On placement, all the unit really asks for is a fairly flat patch with enough room for the delivery truck to maneuver it in and set it straight, plus either a power source in reach or space for a generator. We lock down the exact drop point before dispatch, and our drivers know the Austin layout cold, so the delivery is one clean trip instead of a guessing game on the property.

Austin jobs our freezer trailer fleet has handled

Day one

Independent grocer, South Austin

A compressor gave out on a Tuesday afternoon in the middle of July, with the store's dairy case already climbing past temperature. We had a trailer running in the lot within a few hours. Product stayed cold. Nothing had to be thrown out.

Event caterer, Dripping Springs

A Hill Country wedding season backlog meant three bookings in one weekend, and not enough cooler space at the commissary kitchen to prep all of them at once. So we staged a second trailer for the busiest week. Every order left on schedule.

Wholesale florist, downtown Austin

A February freeze wiped out part of a supplier's crop two days before Valentine's Day. That forced a scramble to source flowers from farther away on almost no notice. We had a unit ready the moment the replacement order landed, humidity and temperature setting already dialed in.

Built for a metro that never really slows down. Samsung's Taylor fab, Tesla's Del Valle expansion, and more than 56 planned data centers along I-35 mean this region is adding kitchens, dining halls, and grocery anchors faster than most cities ever will. We built our Austin stock to keep up with that pace, not to catch up to it.

Your rental timeline, day one to pickup

On a bad day, booking should be the part that does not add stress. Four steps, an upfront number, and a single person who owns the whole thing.

1 · Describe what goes in the box

Tell us whether it is freezer or fridge product, a ballpark volume, and your rough window. That is enough for us to call the right size.

2. We match the unit to your space

We pair you with a unit, confirm whether you have a dedicated circuit or need a generator, and pin the exact drop point so the truck makes one trip.

Step 3 · We level it, start it and hold the set point

We arrive on your schedule, about 45 minutes for a true emergency, set the trailer, energize it, and let it drive down to your number.

After that · Use it, we stay on call

It holds the set-point for your entire term while our line stays live the whole way through. Wrap up, and we swing back for the pickup.

Texas and Austin food-safety rules behind every temporary freezer trailer rental

The rules that actually apply

Austin Public Health requires cold, time and temperature-control-for-safety food to be held at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Food held above that line for more than four hours is a critical violation, and even a shorter excursion can be subject to voluntary destruction. Every food establishment is required to keep accurate thermometers in every unit that prepares or holds food, and those rules come from the Texas Food Establishment Rules, adopted by both the city and Travis County. Across Texas freezer trailer rentals generally, that 41-degree line is the one number every business we work with already knows by heart.

Any public event that serves food, whether it is a wedding, a festival booth, or a company party, needs a Temporary Food Service Permit if it runs 14 days or fewer. Applications are due at least 10 calendar days ahead, and the operational rules carry the same 41-degree threshold plus a requirement that on-site refrigeration actually holds that temperature under real event conditions, on the floor, not on paper. Every mobile food vendor in the city also has to carry a commissary agreement on file with Austin Public Health, and any commissary hosting more than one truck has to register separately as a Central Preparation Facility.

None of this is paperwork for its own sake. A store, a caterer, or a food truck that plans its cold storage around these rules instead of discovering them during an inspection walks into that inspection with nothing to fix. We build to that standard from the start. The unit you book is already set up to pass.

How our freezer trailers hold up in a food-safety audit

  • NSF-approved interior surfaces built for direct food contact.
  • A digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view for the inspector.
  • Proper drainage and a sealed, food-safe insulated box.
  • Licensed and insured on every unit we put on the road.

One caveat we always state plainly: we supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service. If your program requires continuous written records, line that vendor up on your own.

Sizing your cold storage trailer: 6x8, 6x12 or 6x16

Our signature 16 foot Utility series leads the fleet. It is the trailer we send on most jobs, and crews like it for the side utility access door. We build three footprints in all, so a single kitchen holding overflow stock has a fit and so does a distribution floor in a disaster. Every unit is dual purpose by design: one adjustable system swings between freezer and refrigerator on a digital set point. Each trailer runs on a dedicated circuit or on a generator.

A pre-cooled rental cold storage trailer from the KryoFridge fleet serving Austin
TrailerBest forTemp range
6x16 UtilityOur signature series: distribution, large events, disaster response, side utility doorHeavy-duty reefer
6x12Grocers, caterers, mid-size eventsDeep-freeze capable
6x8Tight lots, small kitchens, short overflow-10°F to 50°F

Each unit holds a precise digital set-point and runs on a dedicated 120V/20A circuit or a generator.

The 6x8, the compact unit for a few pallets

Think eight or so pallet spots, and the unit to grab when square footage is the whole problem. It slips into the pinched service yards and cramped back-of-house corners that a larger box cannot even swing into. One cafe or small-market walk-in goes down, and this is almost always enough cold to cover it, plus the simplest unit to set in a small space.

The 6x12, the workhorse for restaurants and markets

Call it fourteen pallet spots, deep-freeze rated, and far and away the size people ask for most. It lands right in the middle: roomy enough for a multi-day catering job or a restaurant that needs true walk-in-equivalent room while the kitchen is torn up. Roomy enough that nobody is playing Tetris with shelves, yet still small enough to set in most commercial back lots without a site survey.

6x16, the heavy hauler for distribution and disaster

Roughly twenty pallet spots paired with a heavy-duty reefer plant engineered to keep deep-freeze locked in even when the ambient air is merciless. Reach for it when a warehouse bay drops, when a large festival needs an anchor, or when a relief operation is carrying its own cold chain.

Not sure which size fits? Most customers land on the 16 foot Utility, and we will tell you honestly if a smaller footprint covers your job. Tell us roughly what you are storing and for how long, and we will spec it for you.

The questions that surface once the basics are settled. Tap any topic to open it.

Freezer trailer or reefer truck for a caterer: how to choose

The pop-up walk-in cooler. Cheap to rent and easy to set up, but it chills, it does not freeze, and it draws every watt it needs from your building while depending on a calm ambient temperature around it. The second your building loses power, your cooler loses it too.

The refrigerated box truck. Designed to haul product on the interstate, not to sit in a lot and babysit it. Parked, it idles fuel all day, broadcasts compressor noise across a storefront or an event lawn, and pins down a tractor plus a driver you probably do not need.

The freezer trailer we deliver. Built from the ground up to be dropped on a pad and to defend a temperature for as long as the job runs. It freezes deep, carries NSF approval, locks, stays quiet near guests, and lives on nothing more than one dedicated circuit or a generator.

NSF surfaces, drainage and a county inspection

Even a rented box has to satisfy the county environmental health office that licenses and inspects every food facility. Show an inspector a unit that cannot document its temperature or was not built for food contact, and they have the authority to halt service immediately.

That is a bar each of our trailers clears: NSF-approved throughout, food-safe interior surfaces, proper drainage, and a digital controller that puts the set-point in plain view. We supply the food-safe, temperature-holding hardware itself, but we are not a temperature-logging or alarm-monitoring service.

Scaling up to several units for a warehouse

For a typical kitchen or market, one box does the job. Distribution floors, big fairs, and full-scale disaster response routinely need more, and because the fleet is ours, we can cluster several units and bring them online in waves as the work expands. Match the cold capacity to the operation rather than make the operation squeeze itself into one box.

Emergency rentals against long-term contracts for a build-out

The clock is yours to set. Some jobs are a handful of days for an emergency or a single event. Others stretch across weeks or months for a remodel or a seasonal swell, and a few become standing contracts for businesses that want capacity parked on standby. Name your window and you will get a clean quote, no penalty for an honest "not sure yet."

Why a second site usually rents instead of building

Building permanent cold storage is a capital project in every sense: you hire a refrigeration contractor, schedule the electrical, pull a building permit, and wait weeks before a single pallet goes inside. A rental turns that equation on its head. You bring in precisely the cold you need, for precisely the stretch you need it, and the trailer is holding temperature that same week, frequently that same day, with the commitment ending the moment your need is over.

What keeps the box cold in high heat and no shade

Three engineered elements carry the load. Thick insulated panels and tightly gasketed doors lock the sun outside and the cold inside. A self-contained reefer condensing system specified with surplus capacity keeps stripping heat out of the box even when the air outside is brutal. And a digital thermostat locks onto your chosen number and cycles the compressor to hold the line. Run those three together and a trailer baking on open asphalt behaves like one tucked in a cool warehouse. That is also why power is the first thing we ask about: the design delivers its safety margin only on steady, uninterrupted power.

"A handful of food trucks depend on our kitchen. When our compressor started slipping, one call got us a trailer the same afternoon."

Tom Halvorsen · commissary manager, East Austin

"Remodeled the kitchen and needed somewhere to hold frozen inventory for three weeks. Simple process, no surprises on the bill, and the driver who delivered it walked me through the temperature setting himself."

Ashley Torres · restaurant owner, Cedar Park

"Kegs need steadier cold than people think. We used a trailer to hold overflow before a big festival pour and it never wavered."

Grant Pilcher · brewery operations lead, East Austin

"A late freeze warning gave us about a day's notice. They got a unit out here fast enough to save the season's stock."

Melissa Okafor · nursery grower, Hutto

"Convention weeks push more product through our kitchen than the walk-ins were ever built for. Renting ahead of the calendar instead of scrambling mid-week changed how we plan the whole month."

Chris Bellamy · banquet chef, downtown Austin hotel

"Small operation, no backup cooler of my own. One Saturday the van's unit failed and they had me set up with a trailer before the market even opened."

Lauren Fitzgerald · farmers market vendor, East Austin

"Our commissary had an outage right before a festival weekend. Would have cost us the whole event without a fast answer."

Rob Delgado · food truck owner, South Austin

"New store opening, permanent walk-in delayed past our open date. They kept product cold for almost a month while we waited on the final inspection, no drama about it."

Nina Ferreira · grocery operations manager, Georgetown

Everything Austin kitchens want to know about freezer trailer rentals

Where is the line between a short-term rental and a long-term temporary freezer trailer contract for Austin businesses?

Most of our Austin bookings run from a few days to a few weeks, covering an emergency swap, an event weekend, or a remodel. Past that, we set up month-to-month terms for a construction delay or a permit delay. We also do this for a seasonal volume stretch that runs longer than expected. There is no hard cutoff between the two. We just ask how long you actually expect to need it and build the agreement around that, with room to extend if the timeline slips.

What actually powers a KryoFridge trailer, an outlet or a generator?

One of two things, nothing else. Either a generator we provide and fuel, or a dedicated 120 volt, 20 amp circuit within 100 feet of the trailer. We are not built for 208 to 240 volt service, so if your site only has that, plan on the generator option. We will walk your site plan with you ahead of delivery so there is no guessing on the day.

When do I need two trailers instead of one if I have frozen and refrigerated product at the same time?

Each KryoFridge trailer runs at one temperature setting at a time, adjustable anywhere from around 50 degrees down to negative 10. If you have a load that needs to stay frozen and a separate load that needs to stay refrigerated at the same time, the straightforward answer is two trailers, one dialed to each temperature. Most jobs that seem to need both usually just need one trailer set to whichever product is more sensitive, with the other product handled by existing space.

How do you clean a trailer between rentals so it is ready for food contact?

Every trailer gets cleaned in our yard before it goes back out, not left for the next renter to sort out. Surfaces are built for food contact, without the seams and joints that trap residue in an older unit. We also walk you through daily upkeep during your rental, so the unit stays in the same condition it arrived in.

Do I need a permit to park a portable freezer trailer at my restaurant or a private event site in Austin?

For an existing restaurant or grocery location, parking a trailer on your own lot generally does not require a separate city permit, though we recommend checking with your property manager or landlord first. For a public event, Austin Public Health requires a Temporary Food Service Permit if food is being served, and that permit's rules include keeping refrigeration capable of holding food at or below 41 degrees. We can help you plan trailer placement so it fits inside those requirements.

Will the trailer lock up if we need to leave it on an open lot overnight?

Yes. Every trailer locks. We walk through the setup with you at delivery so there is no confusion about who has access. For a longer rental on an open lot, we can also talk through placement, lighting, and site layout that make the unit less of a target in the first place.

Can you swap the trailer out if something goes wrong mid-rental?

Yes. It is a fast process. If a unit has a mechanical problem, we get a replacement trailer moving and coordinate the swap so your product spends as little time as possible without power. We keep enough trailers staged in Central Texas that a swap is a same-day fix, not a multi-day wait.

Is there anything I need to have ready on site before delivery day?

Mainly a clear, level spot for the trailer and access to power, either your dedicated 120 volt circuit or space for our generator. We also ask about gate width and turning room ahead of time so the delivery truck is not guessing when it shows up. Beyond that, we handle placement and setup.

How fast can KryoFridge get an emergency freezer trailer to a restaurant when the walk-in fails on a busy Friday night in Austin?

Same-day dispatch is the standard answer for an emergency call, and we stage units around Central Texas specifically so a walk-in failure does not turn into a lost weekend. The exact window depends on where you are in the metro and what is already staged nearby, but we move on emergency calls the moment we hear from you.

What size trailer covers a festival-weekend catering order for a crew feeding a few hundred people?

That depends more on how much product you are holding at once than on the headcount itself. A caterer prepping ahead for an ACL or SXSW weekend usually needs enough space for several days of proteins and prepped items staged before the event even starts. Tell us your menu and your prep timeline and we will size the unit to match, rather than guessing off the guest count alone.

Can a florist hold cut flowers at the same temperature setting as food product before Valentine's Day?

Not exactly the same temperature setting, and we would rather tell you that upfront than let a trailer fall short. Food needs to stay at or under 41 degrees under Austin Public Health rules. Flowers do best a little warmer, generally 34 to 38 degrees, with steady humidity. We dial the trailer to whichever job you are booking it for, so ask for the floral temperature setting specifically when you book.

KryoFridge runs more than one kind of trailer out of Central Texas, so take a look at the rest of the fleet if this one is not quite the fit.

How to Size a Portable Freezer Trailer for an Austin Kitchen or Event

Sizing a rental trailer is not about guessing at a trailer length and hoping it works. It comes down to two numbers. How much product you need to hold at once, and how you plan to load and unload it. Get those two right and the rest of the decision is easy.

Start with volume, not headcount. A caterer feeding 400 people over a single dinner needs less cold storage than a caterer prepping four days of proteins ahead of a festival weekend, even though the second job might feed fewer people on any given day. Count pallets, not plates.

What to Ask Before You Book a Mobile Freezer Trailer in Austin

A rental trailer is a simple piece of equipment, but a rushed booking still creates problems that a five-minute conversation would have caught. Here is what actually matters before you sign anything.

Ask about power first. Confirm whether your site has a dedicated 120 volt, 20 amp circuit within 100 feet of where the trailer will sit, or whether you will need a generator. Guessing wrong on this one detail is the single most common reason a delivery day goes sideways.

Timing a Walk-in Freezer Trailer Rental Around Austin's Event Calendar

Austin keeps a packed, mostly predictable calendar, and that predictability is an advantage if you plan around it instead of reacting to it. Two very different clocks govern when to book.

The first clock is the scheduled one. ACL, SXSW, Rodeo Austin, the Formula 1 weekend at Circuit of the Americas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Thanksgiving are all dated a year or more in advance. A caterer, grocer, florist, or venue can book a trailer weeks ahead, sized to the real volume, staged well before the peak instead of scrambled together during it.

What Changes the Cost of a Refrigerated Trailer Rental in Austin

We do not post prices. Almost nothing about a rental is fixed. What we can do is walk through exactly what moves the number up or down, so a quote never feels random.

Duration is the biggest factor. A same-day emergency swap and a six-month construction bridge are two completely different commitments. The terms reflect that. Longer bookings generally make more sense on a different structure than a short emergency rental.

Renting an Emergency Freezer Trailer vs. Building Permanent Cold Storage in Austin

Every growing restaurant, grocery store, or event venue eventually asks the same question: is it time to build permanent cold storage, or does a rental keep making more sense? The honest answer depends on how often you actually need the extra space.

Permanent cold storage makes sense when demand is constant and predictable. A grocery anchor doing steady volume every single week justifies the cost of a bigger walk-in. That space gets used nearly every day of the year.
